Don’t Let the Dust Settle

New Haven Woman Dusting a ShelfConstantly keeping your New Haven home dust-free can be challenging. What makes it so is that a lot of dusters don’t really remove or trap dust; they just move dust around! This results in a lot of time and money wasted. Dusting effectively can only be achieved through the use of the right tools! Good thing is, there are lots of dusters to choose from, so you can make sure you get the one that you’re looking for.

Feather Dusters

Even though they’re thought to be a luxurious item, feather dusters are a smart choice for everyone. They are, in fact, very durable; and, they are an all-purpose duster that can meet a lot of your dusting needs! Nonetheless, don’t go with just anything — opt for the right kind. Not all feathers attract dust. Only the ostrich down ones do. Ostrich down feathers are thick and soft and sufficiently capture dust. Although they can be on the expensive side, feather dusters made of other types of feathers or synthetic materials won’t work. Instead, cheap feather dusters will flick dust everywhere and it will soon be on your furniture.

Wool Dusters

Made out of natural material, wool dusters are also a great choice! Wool dusters attract and collect dust with static and natural lanolin in the fibers. Because of how soft wool is, it’s the best to use for dusting delicate surfaces that scratch easily. If you find that wool dusters are not readily available in your local stores, they are surely in stock in online shops.

Microfiber Dusters

For other affordable dusters on the market, you might want to check out microfiber dusters. They’re quite effective, too! Though they come in many sizes and styles, these dusters are up to the task of removing dust. Microfiber works so well because it is made of tiny filaments that rub together, creating static electricity. This static attracts dust, making dust removal fast and simple. Microfiber is also washable and reusable, making it one of the most economically-friendly dusters around.

Microfiber dusters come in a wide variety. Several are plain hand dusters, with an easy-grip handle that lets you steer the duster out of corners and across high shelves. A few also come with extendable handles to aid you to reach the tops of door frames and photo frames. Window blinds, however, are a different story. They have a duster specifically for them. Designed with three prongs, this microfiber duster slips between the slats and grabs dust on both sides with every swipe. Another great selection is the dusting mitt. It’s similar to an oven mitt, but it has microfiber material making it the perfect tool for wiping down surfaces.

Disposable Dusters

A disposable dusting pad is another one to consider. These dusters are made from tiny polyester fibers and rely on static electricity to attract and remove dust. Whether you opt for the name brand or the generic ones, these dusting pads essentially work the same way; and, they come in either dusting kits with a reusable handle or packs of refill pads. Many people choose these dusters as their personal preference because it’s easy to tell when it’s visibly dirty. Once that happens, they just throw the pad away.

Compressed Air

Finally, if you need to dust delicate electronic devices or small crevices, one of the best dusters you can use is compressed air. The compressed air comes in cans that you can spray to blow dust out of whatever surface or corner you want. If you feel the need to follow up with more cleaning, you can then use the other types of dusters!
